CONGREGATION-BASED ORGANIZING

An Overview

Gamaliel Foundation is the national organization of which Wisconsin is an affiliate under the name of WISDOM.  JOB is an affiliate of WISDOM.  The following explanation of WISDOM applies also to our local organization of JOB.

Congregation -based organizing is, above else, a commitment to community.  To be involved is WISDOM is to make a commitment to build community by building one-on-one relationships in a congregation and beyond the congregation.  It is a commitment to work collaboratively with a diversity of people and congregations, of different faith traditions, different races and ethnicities and different social circumstances.  Through organizing, we do not just meet, but we agree to work together on the common project of building an effective organization that can bring about positive change in the community.  Involvement in congregation -based organizing is also a commitment to social justice.  It is not just a commitment to the idea of social justice, but rather it is a commitment to work on specific projects that will make a concrete difference.
