Benefits of Joining with JOB

Congregations and other groups that choose to affiliate with JOB can benefit directly in a number of ways:

Leadership Training: Through its Wisconsin (WISDOM) and national network (Gamaliel Foundation), JOB offers intensive leadership skills training and mentoring to its members. These opportunities range from half-day local trainings to week-long national sessions, as well as specialized training for clergy and other groups. The skills and knowledge leaders acquire can be used by the congregation to build its own ministries, as well as to serve the broader community.

Inreach & Outreach: Through leadership training and core team development, congregations are empowered to conduct periodic listening campaigns with their members (inreach) and with other community leaders (outreach). This can have a powerful impact on leadership development, mission clarification, and transformation of the culture and energy of the congregation.

A Public Presence: Being engaged in community organizing with JOB helps a congregation live out its shared values of justice and human dignity in the public realm. It provides opportunities for congregation members to grow in faith and leadership through bold activity, doing God’s work where it most needs to be done, out in the world. It is also an opportunity to engage congregations and individuals with different faith traditions, experiences and perspectives, and to work collaboratively to bring God’s message of hope, abundance and unity to the world beyond the church walls.
